Using Functional Performance Specifications for Improved Decision-Making ~ Wednesday, November 21
Objective: The course will show how using the value analysis technique, Functional Performance Specification (FPS), assists in clarifying decisions at the concept stage of a project. Many other applications will also be discussed.
Seminar Leaders:
- Lucie Parrot, M.Ing., CVS (Life)
- Tom Fletcher, P.Eng., CVS
The seminar will illustrate how function analysis can be successfully applied to define user needs and express those needs in terms of a Functional Performance Specification document. Those needs are expressed in terms of functions and constraints. For each of these, evaluation criteria are defined each with their level and flexibility. The seminar will outline the following:
- Function analysis trees
- Developing performance criteria
- Measuring performance
- Strategic, management and tactical goals
- Using FPS to develop information system requirements
- Using FPS in infrastructure applications and product development
